Last night, the Wranglers traveled to Colleyville to face off against the Colleyville Middle School Colts. Although they have only just passed the halfway mark of the season, this game marked the last away game of the season for the Wranglers, so they were excited to take on one final opponent on the road.
The Wranglers B Team went into the game with excitement and preparation, hoping to keep their undefeated streak. With some super strong serves and great digs, our girls started out strong. However, through a few “serve runs” and some powerhouse hits, The Colts came back into the first set, winning 25-11. Going into the second set, spirits were still up, knowing we were playing hard and knowing we could hold the Colts. Crazy blocks were made, great sets and serves were created, and the Wranglers fought hard. Unfortunately, the Colts also brought the heat, winning the second set 25-12. We are so proud of our B Team and how hard they worked last night! Our Wranglers of the Week are Kusuma Chigurupati and Sahasra Pemmasani.
The Wranglers A team had a strong week of practice and a great pregame warmup, so they took the court feeling confident and ready to play. They knew the Colts would be a competitive opponent, but the Wranglers were not phased and chose to rise to the challenge. They had excellent blocks and block touches, got great passes on defense and serve/receive, and responded to Colleyville’s attacks with powerful hits of their own. Although the Wranglers made a few serving errors that allowed the Colts to get a lead in both sets, the Wranglers fought hard throughout the game and played one of the strongest games of this season. The Colts ultimately brought home the win, but we could not be prouder of our Wranglers A team and their incredible showing last night. Our Wranglers of the Week are Tanushri Balaji and Keira Suez.
As our Wrangler C Team entered into the last game of the night, they were ready to put up a fight! Leading the majority of the first set with amazing digs, serves and hits, the girls placed the Colts into a tough position in the last few minutes of the set. With only a few points behind, the Colts came back and were able to grasp a close win, with a score of 25-22. As the girls went into the second set, they were determined to continue fighting! With beautiful communication and passes to one another, the Wranglers fought valiantly to keep their score up against the Colts. However, with some powerful hits and serves coming from the Colleyville court, our Wranglers sadly lost the game, losing the set 25-11. Our Wranglers of the Week are Inayah Husain and Joshya Kanugonda.
We are so proud of the Wranglers and their hard work in their final away game this week. Next week, the Wranglers will have their bye week. While they will not have an official game, The Wranglers will be inviting last year’s 8th grade team back to West for the 2nd Annual Alumni game. We are excited for the amazing week ahead!
