The Coppell West Wranglers hosted the Grapevine Middle School Pony 8th grade football team for a playoff game at Coppell Middle School West this week. During the regular season, the Wranglers fought off the Ponies for a tightly contested 13 to 6 victory, which led to West hosting the first round matchup. At the beginning of the game, the West defense played tough up front, getting a stop on 4th down. That set up the Wrangler offense well. West drove the field 70 yards, setting up for a Noble Palmer rushing touchdown and a Maurya Tyagi 2 point kick to give the Wranglers an early 8 to 0 lead. The Wrangler defense quickly stopped the Pony offense, giving the Wranglers another opportunity to go score. The Wranglers earned some yards but were forced to punt. The Wranglers forced a turnover defensively, an interception by safety Dev Rajput. The Wranglers led the Ponies at halftime 8 to 0. The Wranglers received the second half kickoff and began to score points in bunches. Quarterback Rohith Santhanakrishnan pitched a pass to Noble Palmer for 51 yards to continue the scoring, bumping the Wrangler lead to 16 to 0. The Wrangler defense continued the swarming play, halting the Grapevine offense on 4th down again, giving the offense the ball back at midfield. Noble Palmer immediately ran for another long touchdown run, this time 59 yards, increasing the score to 23 to 0. The Wrangler defense allowed a big play from Grapevine’s offense, leading to a touchdown for the Ponies. The score in the 4th quarter was West 23 to Grapevine 7. On the last offensive drive for West, the Wranglers marched the ball down the field, this time getting contributions from Nick Crenshaw, leading to the final West touchdown. West finished off the game with a final score of 29 to 7 West over Grapevine. The crowd roared and the Wranglers celebrated on the sidelines. Next week, the Wranglers travel to Colleyville Middle School to take on the Colleyville Colts in a final playoff match to determine the 5th place finisher for the season. The previous matchup did not end well for the Wranglers, but the Wranglers are riding high on a 2 game winning streak looking to end the season on a 3 game win streak.
