The Coppell Middle School West tennis team had an excellent match just this last Monday. For the first time since I've been at this school and even before that, West was able to beat East with a score of 12-7. I couldn't be more proud of our team and the hard work they put in.
We started strong with doubles winning 4 out of the 6 matches they played, and winning by quite a large margin. The boys especially have really started to hit their stride and work together better and I enjoy seeing them work together to win points. The girls performed just as well and were hitting amazing shots each and every point! I can see the growth these young athletes have gone through and I hope to see even more as we move onto our next match. Keep up the good work West!
Singles was a lot more evenly split then doubles was. We won 8 out of those 12 matches but they were a lot closer since East had a very strong group of players. Some of the matches were won by a large margin like Arihan Hooda, Ayush Verma and Sidhanth Varkol winning 6-0, but there were other matches that were a lot closer. We had several matches go to tiebreak even, where we won 2 of those. Special shoutout to Aarav Katre who won his tiebreak after being down 2-5 at one point. Great job, it helped a lot! Ayana Popli also won her match in tiebreak and it was great seeing the whole team cheer her on to victory.
Our extra matches also went well, and overall I can say that of the many matches I've had here at West this was one of the best I've had the privilege of watching. Winning is nice sure, but even better then that is watching every athlete talk excitedly about what they should do in their match, who to cheer for, and being excited for their teammates successes. The team was supportive in a way I don't always see every match when the stakes aren't as high and I really love seeing them work together so excitedly.
Make sure to give your students props! They all did awesome at the match!! Great work West!!

Coach Moberg
