Hello Cross Country!
Now that we've reached the end of the season, I wanted to let you all know how much I appreciate all of the hard work that you have been putting in each and every day as you push yourselves to get faster. It feels like it's been a long season I'm sure, but it's gone by so fast (ha-ha get it "fast"?) that it hardly feels like we've even begun! There have certainly been some ups and downs, but I'm proud of all this team has accomplished and the progress that each and every one of you has made at getting faster and dropping your times. I know that getting up early to run wasn't always easy, but each and every one of you should be proud of how you worked each week of the season to be there and get better. I'm sure those results are going to help you in your other sports as well.
I want to give a special huge shout out to the 7th Grade Boys who are not only the champions for the Zone meet but the fastest runners in their age group in our entire district and beyond! This has never happened while I have been at West and is a huge accomplishment for these boys. Not only were they the fastest they were also some of the best behaved and most enjoyable athletes I've had the pleasure of working with. It's rare to see a group of boys so eager to wake up early and run, that's part of what makes them so talented! Each and every meet they proved that West is Best and I can't wait to see it all again next year.
The 8th grade boys also consistently performed very well across the board. It was always a sight to behold the 8th grade West boys running together as a group, keeping each other motivated and inspiring each other to run faster. I was always glad to see the 8th boys trying their hardest each and every week, either while at practices or at meets.
The girls also deserve credit for always showing up and always trying their best. This is especially impressive because since it's a smaller group, they were a lot more likely to go to meet. Each and every week they had to step up and run in front of huge crowds, and I could not be prouder of them for it. I know I'm going to miss those early morning warmups where I was constantly making sure, they were doing it right (and that they had tied shoes!)
I appreciate all of the hard work you put in this season and I wish you the best as you try out for Basketball and beyond. Go West!! Always remember: RUN FASTER!!
