As the first game of the year kicked off, the Coppell West Lady Wranglers took on the Coppell East Lady Broncos. With this being the very beginning of the season against a cross town rival, hopes were high and excitement could be felt in the gymnasium as the first game began.
The Lady Wranglers B Team came into their game ready to fight and play hard. With hard fought defense, quick moves down the floor, and sharp passes across the court, the Lady Wranglers were able to hold the Lady Broncos for the first half of the game, only losing by 8. As the second half began, the Lady Broncos were determined to continue their scoring streak and win out the game, but the Lady Wranglers were not afraid of the competition. Offensive Wrangler of the Week, Maya Drake, attacked the Lady Bronco defense with speed, accurate shots, and great ball handling. Defensive Wrangler of the Week, Sloan Patel, also attacked the Lady Broncos, making their offensive plays and fast breaks stutter with her great defense. Sadly, the Lady Wranglers lost by 8 in the final quarter. However with the amount of skill and talent shown on the court, we are looking forward to a successful and exciting season! [Final Score - 16-8]
As for the A Team, the Lady Wranglers sadly had a tough start to the season. The Lady Broncos attacked our girls hard with scrappy defense and great shots. Fast breaks beat the Lady Wranglers down the court and quick passes created confusion on the defense. However, our team did not go down without a fight! Our Defensive Wrangler of the Week, Saanvi Thapa, played aggressive, forcing the Lady Bronco’s offense to shift gears on plays and passes. Our Offensive Player of the Week, Keira Suez, worked the bottom of the paint with an endless amount of great rebounds and put backs with the ball. Overall, our girls worked hard, but fell short. With more practice and focusing on our skills, the team is prepared to take on more teams and get some wins as the season continues. [Final Score - 45-12]
As the C Team stepped onto the court for the last game of the night, the girls were ready to bring home a win. Starting off strong and scrappy, the Lady Wranglers defense became a hard thing to beat as they played up against the Lady Broncos. Offensive Wrangler of the Week, Jenelle Olanya, drove hard to the basket, making multiple shots in or around the paint to keep the score up. Defensive Wrangler of the Week, Samantha Acuna, forced the ball to be turned over and fought for multiple times, helping us lead to a over time tied at 16-16. With only three minutes in the overtime quarter, the Lady Wranglers knew what to do - WIN. Jenelle Olanya was able to receive the ball in the paint, creating a winning shot at the end of the quarter. Although some work is still to come in practice, the C Team coming out with a victory on their first game together against a cross town rival was the perfect way to start our season together! [Final Score - 18-16]
