Our Lady Wrangler kicked off their season with a new opponent this week as we traveled to Vista Ridge Middle School this past Thursday. New opponents mean new experiences and learning opportunities, and the girls did an awesome job at adapting and playing their best.
The first game of the season is always so stressful. We could see the nerves on the court as we experienced our games and team for the first time. The game was all about serves. On the occasions when the ball did make it over the net we struggled with confidence on how to play, sometimes we were successful and other times we doubted our abilities. It was very exciting when we had a three touch attack and several volleys from both sides. All of this will come with more time and practice. We were very excited about the progress we have made and the adjustments that we made in the game as we became more relaxed. Our players of the game this week were our serving leaders, Jia Gupta and Nethra Sheri.
The A game proved again to be a battle of the serves. The girls did a great job in the first set, keeping us just barely ahead the whole game and despite an early serve run by Vista Ridge, the girls worked hard, kept each other motivated and we were able to pull ahead in a close finish, the final score 25-22. Our first game nerves got the best of us in the second set and we struggled in serve receive, finishing 15-25. It all came down to another 3 set match! The girls knew that they were going to have to fight and focus on this final set. Our servers did a great job and we had some exciting rallies putting us on top, winning the match in the final set 15-8. Our A team players of the game were Sophia Kim, who earned our game winning serve in set 3, and Sophia Tran who was very consistent at the serving line! Great Job to all of our ladies!! Next Thursday we will head out of town to play against Chisholm Trail for our second game of the season.
