The Coppell West Lady Wranglers vs. Medlin Middle School

West 7th grade girls basketball had our first away game on December 5th against Medlin Middle School. We knew going in that it could be a rough game since Medlin has a reputation for usually having pretty strong basketball groups. This year they showed that it is a well deserved reputation.

The A team was the first game to start us off. Beyond the skill of the Medlin team, the girls seemed very intimidated by their size. While we did become more comfortable and aggressive as the game went on, we could not get any of our shots to fall until the very end of the game. The girls created some good looks and had opportunities, we just weren’t confident enough to finish the play. This experience will help them in our next game and I look forward to seeing how much progress they make.

B Team was up next. Once again they brought an impressive amount of energy and scrappiness to the game. They bested their score from the previous game and had better positioning on both defense and offense. Building confidence through some better ball handling skills and dribbling will hopefully help take this group to the next level.

C Team was our final game of the morning. Though this is the first time playing organized basketball for most of the C team players, they really do learn fast! Putting fun and hard work at the top of our to-do list, we can count our game as a success. They were great about listening to tips from the bench as well as teamwork. I am excited to see where this group goes as the season progresses.
