This week the Wranglers took on the Fossil Hill Middle School Panthers. It was a close game all the way until the end. In the first quarter neither team scored for about the first two minutes. The Wranglers’ defense managed to slow the game and keep things under control. Haniel Johnson and James Faison put up the first points, keeping the game in reach at the end of the first quarter. The team turned things up in the second quarter, and brought the game within two points at the half. Down the stretch, Ryan Truong made some key rebounds that gave the Wranglers more opportunities to score. With about 1:30 left in the game the teams were tied and were trading rebound for rebound. In the last 30 seconds of the game the Panthers scored two layups, forcing the Wranglers to foul. Haniel Johnson led the team in scoring with a season high of 14 points. This weekend, the Wranglers hope to turn things around at home against the Medlin Middle School Mustangs.

The Wranglers faced a very short turnaround time between games as they played their second game in three days on Monday against the Fossil Hill MS Panthers. Things didn’t go well for the Wranglers from the outset, as the boys were out of sync with each other offensively and were unable to score for the duration of the contest. On the defensive side of the court, the Panthers attacked with rapid ball movement and accurate passing that left the Wranglers scrambling to cover. Mehlam Khambati was especially active on defense, leading the team with six rebounds and three steals. Parth Patel also contributed 3 rebounds and a steal to the effort. The matchup showed several areas that the Wranglers need to improve on before this Saturday’s game versus the Medlin Mustangs, and they will hit the practice court with renewed focus and intensity as they seek to bounce back from adversity and chalk up a win this weekend.
