The Lady Wranglers began their basketball season this Thursday against the Tidwell Titans. With only a few days to prepare, the girls were nervous, but also really excited to get the season started and play some basketball. Our C team started off the night with an exciting game! We were all tied up at the end of the 1st quarter, but got a little behind and let Tidwell lead 6-10 at the half. We struggled in the 3rd allowing Tidwell to gain more traction and went into the 4th quarter with a 10-16 deficit to make up. The girls stepped up in a big way and tied the game up with 30 seconds left in the game, but unfortunately Tidwell got a lucky shot and were able to finish 16-18. Overall the girls fought hard, and felt positive walking away from the game. Our leading scorers was Nidhi Koyyalamudi with 6 points, and Abby Ruiz with 4 points. Anantya did a great job with 5 rebounds. Our players of the game were Payton Moses and Abby Ruiz.
Our B team started off a little slower, but still had some great looks. We struggled rebounding against their big defense, but when we protected the ball and made some good decisions up the floor, there were great opportunities for us to score, but our rebounding kept us from getting some more attempts. After getting shut out in the first half, the girls stepped up in the second half and played much better defense and held them to only 6 points in the second. Nysa Nayak, Suha Parvathaneni, and Sahasra Rudraraju all got a bucket for us. Our players of the game were Hannah Polito, and Sahasra Rudraraju.
The 7th grade A team went into the game looking for a starting point and knowing that this was just the start of the season. We can build on all of the fundamentals we have been working on and set our team goals after learning our start point. A lot of great things happened and the girls played hard all four quarters. The first half you could definitely tell we had the first game jitters and we were slow to get started. However, the second half, the girls started seeing the court better and understanding where to play defense and how important spreading the court out is on offense. Bianca Podval led the team in hustle and heart this first game, coming in the game off of the bench and changing the momentum to get the Lady Wranglers some steals and opportunities to score on their side of the court. Scoring 2 points for the Lady Wranglers were Bianca Podval, Addison Howard, Diya Suresh and Aditi Yechangunja. Kanishka Muthukuri had one steal and 4 points, and our overall player of the game goes to Dhrithi Bulusu with 6 steals, 1 rebound and 6 points. Overall, we are very proud of these girls and look forward to seeing how much they improve each week.
The Lady Wranglers will be playing on their home court for the first time this season next Thursday against the Indian Springs Eagles.
