Congratulations to the Lady Wrangler C team on their first win of the season! The girls have been close and battled in each of their games, but Thursday night they were able to pull out the win at Pike Middle School. The girls started off a little sluggish in the first quarter and without rebounds, we struggled to keep Pike from scoring or giving us some opportunities to score, and got shut out 0-6. The second quarter, after the girls got a little warmed up, we stepped up on defense and were able to finish at the half 4-10. Then the fun started! The third quarter proved an equal game finishing 8-14, and the girls decided at that point that they were coming home with a win. After scoring 11 points in the 4th quarter, and making some key free throws, we squeaked by in the final minutes with our defense and were able to pull off the win and a final score of 19-18. Our top scorers of the night were Jada Kinnon, and Rachel Chio who worked hard in the paint and were able to get some put backs down low. Anantya Pentapati was our leading rebounder, and Sanaa Wadhwa played great defense and got lots of steals. Our player of the game was Faiza Firdaws who was an outstanding leader for us on the floor as our point guard and worked hard to put her team in better opportunities.
The B team struggled to slow down the speed of Pike last night. Again, we started off a little sluggish in the first quarter and were unable to score any points. And then we just couldn’t buy a bucket. All of our guards did a great job at seeing the floor and making good decisions. They stayed out and gave their team some space and created a few opportunities for us to score. There is definitely potential in what we are seeing. We struggled on defense near the basket and getting rebounds which ended up contributing mostly to our loss. Our leading rebounder was Suha Parvathaneni, and our player of the game was Kanishka Muthukuri who attacked the basket and wasn’t afraid to try and score for us.
The A team had high hopes for a win against the Panthers, but just couldn’t put all the pieces together. All players contributed in the game and made some great things happen on the court, but the player of the game went to Hannah Polito. Hannah had 6 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals. Other players contributing on the court were Dhrithi Bulusu with 4 points, 2 steals and 2 rebounds; Taliah Ellis with 6 points, 1 steal and 4 rebounds and Vyshnavi Devarakonda with 2 points and 1 steal.
The Lady Wranglers plan to move forward and look to work even harder this week as they prepare for their next home game against Timberview next Thursday.
