GIRLS ATHLETICS

Girls Basketball | 1/13/2023

The Lady Wrangler C team started the night off against Wilson on Thursday night. Regardless of the score, the girls are showing great improvement since our first game of the season. Overall, we need to work on a sense of urgency when executing our offense and containment on defense. Our player of the game goes to Sofia Houston. Houston started on the 3rd string and is now a strong asset on the 1st string. Houston shined against Wilson on Thursday in rebounding, steals, and high points. Another strong defensive player goes to Paris Thibodeaux who led her team in steals. Next week we pair up against East! We hope to see plenty of Wranglers cheering our girls on!

B team came out strong and did not let the height of the Wilson Wildcats intimidate them. Our girls struggled with spatial awareness and keeping tabs on the ball and defender. While this skill only comes with experience, we will continue working on our basketball I.Q. Even though we did not win, we did see great players shine. Our player of the game goes to Addison Hatfield. Addison led her team in steals, rebounds, and high points. Her leadership and positive attitude never waived and had fun from start to finish. Honorable mentions for our game against Wilson were Lilly Davis and Sia Bohra for their aggressiveness and intensity. We will prepare to rope the Broncos at our next game against East!

The Lady Wrangler A team finished the night for us against Wilson. After 3 weeks of no games, the girls played decent on offense, but our defense was lacking. The girls definitely looked a little tired after the holidays, however there are a few things that are starting to click for us on offense that I hope we can get excited about and take advantage of. This next week will be focused on defense and making smart decisions. Even though we didn’t win, there are better things happening every week. Our offensive player of the week was Amani Harper who scored 18 points, and our defensive player of the week was Esha Polishetty, with 8 steals. Honorable mentions for the game were Charlotte Gemmill who stepped up in the point guard position, and Isabella Smith who stepped in from B team for a sick player and did an awesome job. Next week the girls take on the East Broncos!
