The 7th Grade Lady Wrangler Basketball Team went up against a tough Coppell North Lady Cougar Team on Thursday, December 07, 2023. With a hard press and a quick pace, the Lady Wrangler teams fought hard but fell short in all three games.
For the Lady Wrangler A Team, they were pressed hard right at the beginning of the game, but that did not scare them away from a scrappy game! The A Team’s defense was amazing, much improved from the week before, and although they came up short in the end, the girls were not afraid to press the Lady Cougars right back. Lyric Polk, the Wrangler of the Week for the A Team, made the Lady Cougars completely change their defensive strategy with her quick court awareness, her ball handling skills and shooting. Ishani Dash made the Lady Cougars work for a shot as she beat people down the court with her speed and stopped them dead in their tracks at the bottom of the key when shooting. Kendi Kimathi also worked hard to make sure that the ball was protected on offense and the game stayed at a quick pace. Although we lost the game, a great game was played! Well done ladies.
For the Wrangler B Team, we started off strong against the Lady Cougars, but with a tough press, the girls couldn’t quite take care of the ball and the Lady Cougars got a quick lead. With some missed opportunities under the basket, the Lady Wranglers couldn’t quite close the gap. At halftime, there was a change in defense, and the Lady Wranglers held the Lady Cougars to only 7 points in the second half. Kashvi Mogili continued to show her aggressiveness and quickness on the court, along with attacking the basket. Anika Shori, who was chosen for the Wrangler of the Week completed some fast breaks and earned some points on the board. Anursi Katuru had strong rebounds along with Tanisha Yadav with some defensive plays. Unfortunately, the girls fell short, despite their efforts and hustle on the court.
For the Wrangler C Team, the girls are starting to come together, but still room for improvement. The Lady Cougars had a tough press that the Lady Wranglers had a hard time breaking. Eventually, the press was led up and the girls could run some plays and get some points on the board. Jia Wu was the Wrangler of the Week with some tough drives and shots. Isabel Le made some good defensive plays, along with Tanishka Yarlagadda. The girls hung with the Lady Cougars, and showed some major improvement. Hopefully, with more practice and development, both teams will show some solid teamwork and execution.
