Lady Wranglers Wrestling Start Off Season With A SLAM!

WEST GIRLS ATHLETICS

West Girls Athletics | 12/9/2023

The Lady Wranglers Wrestling team is off to a phenomenal start this season. Since their championship-winning season last year, the West Girls Wrestling program has tripled in size! It has been a privilege to watch more and more athletes fall in love with this sport and get involved in this incredible community. Each of our athletes has been working incredibly hard each day to learn the ins and outs of wrestling, to develop their skills, and to support their teammates— We have all had an absolute blast together and are so excited to continue the season together.

To kick off their season, the Lady Wranglers traveled to Cross Timbers to compete against Grapevine. They had a lot of fun, worked so hard, and were able to bring home twelve wins (with several wins being due to pins!). Even when they didn't win, our wrestlers showed amazing grit and resolve on the mats, and we are beyond proud of the efforts of each and every one of our wrestlers at their first meet of the season. Our Wranglers of the Week at Cross Timbers are Klohee Williams and Lakshmi Sidapura.

The next week, the Lady Wranglers competed back on their home turf. Now that they had one meet under their belts, the Lady Wranglers started to feel more comfortable on the mats. This showed in their confidence in their bouts and in the fact that they brought home 20 wins in a single meet! Seven 8th graders went undefeated in their matches, and the 7th graders also secured several wins and pins. Even when they didn’t win, they showed incredible levels of growth and development since week one, and we are so proud of the efforts of every one of our athletes this week. After an incredible showing this week, our Wrestlers of the Week against Grapevine are Amogha Perla and Lilly Davis.
Last weekend, we had an absolute blast at our first tournament of the season at Allen High School. The wrestlers had the opportunity to bond as a team, face new opponents, and watch some high quality wrestling matches. It was a fun day for all who attended, and as an added bonus, the Lady Wranglers were able to bring home 17 wins and 2 gold medals! Our Wrestlers of the Week for the Allen Tournament were our two gold medalists, including Anabella Pernia. Manager of the Week goes to Sanvi Gubbi Arun for all of her help in this tournament, as well as at all of our meets, practices, and more.

On Tuesday, the Lady Wranglers traveled to Southlake to compete against the Carroll Dragons. We saw some tough competition, but our wrestlers did not back down from the challenge. The Lady Wranglers fought incredibly hard, and each of our athletes were amazing encouragers to one another on and off the mats. Our Wrestlers of the Week were Aishani Dogra and Ananya Marepallykar.

After the first half of the season, the Lady Wranglers have already brought home fifty-one wins and two gold medals. Although we’ve loved seeing so many pins and wins on our team this year, we are even more proud of this team's character. Win or lose, they show an incredible amount of grit, composure, strength, determination, and tenacity every single time they step on the mats. Off the mats, they are relentless supporters and encouragers of one another, cheering one another on when they win and lifting one another up when they don't. The Lady Wranglers have had an absolute blast on and off the mats together, learned so many new skills, and grown so much both as individuals and as a team.

We are so proud of all of their hard work and cannot wait to see what all the second half of the season will have in store for the team. If you want to come support the team, we hope to see you at our next meet on Wednesday (12/13) at the Coppell High School Arena!
