Close Calls Against the Coppell East Lady Broncos

WEST ATHLETICS

West Athletics | 12/5/2024

Last night, the Lady Wranglers took on the Lady Broncos at Coppell Middle School East for a close cross town rivalry game. With the A Team looking for a win, the C team looking for their wins to out number the loss they have, and the B Team looking to continue their undefeated record, the Lady Wranglers went in with a lot of hope and determination to do well.

To start the night off, the B Team went against a scrappy and fast paced Bronco B Team. The score stayed tight the whole night, staying within 3 points of each other throughout the game. With Ishani Dash taking up the lead for rebounds and aggressiveness on defense, and Mirielle Ali taking up the lead on the offensive end with driving the ball down the court and shots, the girls stayed in the game the whole night. Sadly, within the last minute of the game, the Lady Broncos were able to make a last minute shot, and ended up winning 20-19.

The A Team came into the game ready to fight, however went up against a lot more aggressive Lady Bronco team than they anticipated. With full court press and hard man-to-man defense, the Lady Broncos went out strong on the court. Lyric Polk put up a good fight at the point guard position, and even moving to the post position throughout the game, to help make sure that the offensive set up of East was stopped. Diksha Turwale also played hard, being quick with going for rebounds and following shots, while also being a tough match to beat on defense. Sadly, the Lady Wranglers lost 48-16 by the end of the night.

Finally, the C Team came in speedy and ready to fight for a win for the night. In the beginning, the girls stayed within a close reach, only falling behind the Lady Broncos by 6 points in the first quarter. As the night went on, however, the Lady Broncos rebounding mixed with the loud environment of the gymnasium, created confusion on the court for the Lady Wranglers. Jia Wu did a great job driving the ball down the court time and time again, looking for open shots and good passes for point opportunities. Sanjana Sasikumar did a great job being aggressive under the basket, being quick to get loose balls and looking for the open lane. In the end, however, the Lady Wranglers lost 24-7.

The Lady Wranglers are back at home next week to go against Colleyville Middle School as their last game before break.
