The Lady Wranglers took on the Coppell North Cougars at Coppell West on October 17th, 2024. It was Staff Appreciation Night and the stands were packed and the gym was loud!
The A Team started on a good run keeping the score neck and neck. Rithika Bavireddy had a strong night of serving, along with Alina Le. Great passes and defense from Emery Juarez, Sloan Patel, and Sahasra Pemmasani. However, a North player, who had a strong jump serve, increased the lead by going on a 12 point run and the Lady Wranglers couldn’t quite get it back. They lost 2-0, and ended the season with a 2-4 record. The girls will start off the District Tournament playing Heritage at Grapevine Middle School next Thursday.
The B Team had a nail biter in the first game. The girls kept changing the leads. With the strong serving of Maya Mathew and Daana Kavali and excellent passes from Isha Pillai and Tanushri Balaji, the girls made some great plays and executed the three contacts on multiple occasions. Something the girls have been improving on every day, along with defense. The Lady Cougars took the first match 26-24. The Lady Wranglers took the second match 25-17, but couldn’t quite hold it together in the third match and lost to North 2-1. Excellent job B Team for a great season!
The C Team had close games as well. With the strong serving of Anvi Jain and Emily Palomo, the girls stuck with them. There was great net play with Emily Palomo and Sreenith Adluru, but North pulled away with the win 21-25 in the first match. With long volleys and consistent serving in the second match, the girls hung in there once again. Kiara Khosla made some great serves and passes, along with Greeshma Pallabothula and Inayat Bathla. But North ended up getting on a long serving run which got them back in the game to win it 25-20. The C Team had an overall record of 3-3.
The season was a success because none of the girls had any volleyball experience. Maybe 1 out of 32 young ladies. From day one, until the last day of the season, the girls learned the game of volleyball, improved their skills, got their serves over, and learned about teamwork and sportsmanship. To us, that is what coaching is all about and the greatest reward ever. Plant a seed and watch it grow.
